Welcome to Bonnie Cone Classical Academy (BCCA)—a tuition-free, K-6 charter school with a quality PreK program, located in Huntersville, North Carolina.
Using a classical education model, an integrated Pre-K-6 curriculum, and our R.A.I.S.E. virtues, we guide our students as they develop a love of learning. Students also develop a respect for themselves and others, a commitment to citizenship and outstanding moral character, and a strong knowledge base that will serve as the foundation for the rest of their academic career.

Our Classical Education Philosophy
At BCCA, we embrace the classical education model—a time-tested approach that follows the three stages of learning: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. This framework, known as the trivium, aligns with children’s developmental stages to ensure a deep and well-rounded education.
- Grammar Stage: In the early years, students build a strong foundation by absorbing facts and mastering basic skills through observation and memorization. They learn essential subjects such as phonics, spelling, fundamental math facts, key stories from literature and history, and core scientific concepts.
- Logic Stage: As students mature, they begin to ask “why.” This stage encourages independent thinking, critical analysis, and reasoning through arguments. Learners explore methods such as the scientific method, construct logical essays, and tackle abstract mathematical concepts.
- Rhetoric Stage: In the final stage, students learn to apply and communicate their knowledge. They develop persuasive writing skills, express ideas creatively, and connect academic learning to real-world situations, all while confidently defending their perspectives.
This approach is centered on teaching children how to learn any subject by first grasping its fundamentals, then delving deeper into understanding, and finally expressing their own insights. Our curriculum immerses students in rich content across disciplines—from literature and history to science and the arts—and includes Latin instruction to enhance language structure and vocabulary. By adopting this classical philosophy, BCCA fosters critical thinkers who can reason effectively and communicate persuasively while building enduring character.

Through exposure to rich texts, students gain cultural literacy and excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge-Rich Content Across Grades: Our curriculum is organized in a grade-by-grade sequence that builds upon previous knowledge. This carefully spiraled approach reinforces key ideas over time, ensuring that students master concepts through repetition and deepening understanding. The integration of Core Knowledge with Eureka Math not only meets but often exceeds modern academic standards and accountability requirements.
