About Bonnie Cone Schools
Welcome to Bonnie Cone Schools, a dyad of tuition-free public charter schools in the Huntersville, NC area dedicated to providing a classical education with a focus on character and leadership. Our network is comprised of two unique academies – Bonnie Cone Classical Academy (BCCA) and Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy (BCLA) – each serving students at different grade levels while sharing a common mission and set of values. BCCA equips Pre-K–6 students with the tools needed to thrive in a traditional classical learning environment, while BCLA offers a full K–12 experience, serving as both a continuation for BCCA graduates and a vibrant option for local families seeking a comprehensive high school education.
At Bonnie Cone Schools, our goal is to give every child a well-rounded education that nurtures academic, social, and emotional growth. We implement a rigorous classical curriculum and instill our core R.A.I.S.E. values in daily lessons, guiding students toward a lifelong love of learning. Our Academies
Bonnie Cone Classical Academy (Pre-Kâ6)
Bonnie Cone Classical Academy (BCCA) is our early learning and elementary campus, focused on building a solid educational foundation for young learners. BCCA offers a tuition-free Pre-K–6 program grounded in a time-tested classical education model. Our integrated curriculum emphasizes core subjects such as literature, history, science, and the arts—providing students with rich background knowledge and essential critical thinking skills. In these early years, children master the fundamental "grammar" of learning, which includes phonics and basic math facts, setting the stage for logical reasoning and effective communication as they progress. Even Latin is introduced to enhance language and grammar skills, contributing to strong literacy development.
At BCCA, learning goes beyond academics. Our passionate educators weave the R.A.I.S.E. virtues into everyday classroom activities, fostering both intellectual growth and character development. By combining a classical approach with a virtue-focused school culture and exceptional teaching, BCCA nurtures young learners to become thoughtful, contributing members of society. Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy (Kâ12)
Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy (BCLA) is our expanding upper school campus, offering a full K–12 educational experience for students as they transition into adolescence and young adulthood. Located on a brand-new campus in Huntersville, BCLA extends the Bonnie Cone classical education model into middle school and high school. Sharing the same rigorous curriculum and core values as BCCA, BCLA provides a wealth of opportunities tailored for older students, placing a special emphasis on leadership development and real-world readiness. Here, students take on increased responsibilities, engage in community service, and assume leadership roles in school clubs and activities as they mature.
BCLA offers a comprehensive high school experience, including competitive athletics, fine arts programs, and a variety of extracurricular clubs that support growth outside the classroom. This approach allows students to explore their talents, build confidence, and prepare for college and careers in a nurturing environment. Designed as a natural continuation for BCCA students and others in the local community, BCLA ensures a smooth transition with a consistent educational philosophy and school culture from elementary through high school.
